You will below all presentations (to listen and download) we had at the international conference on dam removal and the restauration of the Sélune river, from 24th to 26 September, 2019 in Brittany and Normandy. (Rennes / Avranches – Mont Saint Michel).
This conference was organised by : European Rivers Network, the French Agency for Biodiversity, the National Federation for Fishing in France and Dam Removal Europe, and the National Institute of Agronomic Research (INRA), the Water Agency Seine-Normandie and the NGO Aliance “Friends of the Sélune”.
More than 200 participants came from 20 countries and three continents with 30% from the local, Rennes-Avranches region. This colloquium in both French and English brought together experts, scientists, managers, NGOs, government representatives, but also users of the Sélune river.

In the morning, talks began with a discussion on the importance of ecological continuity for rivers, and several presentation of tools, actions, policy to help river continuity restoration in France, Scotland, Finland and Europe. Monitoring results from Maisons-Rouges cases studies and others from United States have also been presented. In the afternoon, the works in progress on the Selune have been shown, including the first results of the remarkable scientific monitoring program coordinated by INRA, which has taken place over the past fifteen years.

The genesis of the Sélune dam project was presented and also the restoration issues for a general interest and for the territory (general economy, fisheries, local population…). The sociological issues of dam removal were discussed along several talks and participation of association of the Friends of the Dams but also with a resident of the valley in favor to the project. The sharing of experiences from South Corea, France, Denmark, USA, … came to bring concrete examples where dam removal allowed a reconquest of the territories.
